James C Pilling to Frederick Saunders, Letter, 1887

DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR
UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY
WASHINGTON D. C. Feb 28 1887

Mr Fred. Saunders
Astor Library

My dear Sir
I have in press (reading proof
of letters C-E now) an Eskimo bibliography
and am desirous of giving
translations of Eskimo letters. I have
all the Eskimo dictionaries except
[illegible]
[illegible]
is there a copy in the Congress Lib.
May I ask the great favour of the
loan of your copy for a few
weeks, the volume to be sent
by Express at our expense and to
be insured if you prefer.

Major Powell [illegible] me say that
the Geol. Survey or the Bureau of
Ethnology will either or both be glad
to reciprocate at any time.

It may be against your rules
to do this and only a strong desire
to make the bibliography as complete as
possible permits me to make a request.

Very cordially yrs
James C. Pilling
