John Goldsmith Jay, Letter 1, ca.1900

sorry to hear of ?
? a mishap to him.
I hope he does not suf-
fer a great deal of pain
but I suppose ? has
taken measures to reduce
that to a minimum.

Sep [Septimus] didn’t write to me
about it.

I have just received
a letter from Mother
telling me of Boud’s hurt-
ing himself. I would
go home this evening
if I could have  ?
but I have some patients
whom I cannot very
well get away from just
now. I wrote to you
and Mother some time
since (more than two
weeks ago) but as Mother

didn't say any thing about
receiving my letter in
the mail I just received
from him perhaps you
never got mine.

I was at cousin Eliza's
this morning, and
saw Agnes and cousin
? . Anges is I think
well. I have at last
gotten entirely sick of
my rheumatism; it
has not troubled me
now for more than a
week, but it ? so
closely for a while that I
began to regard it al-
most as a permanent
infirmity.

Give my love to
Mother and all at
home. I will write to
