Writer / Assigned to / Related to

Melvil Dewey
Melvil Dewey is not presumed to be the writer of this, but it is a style often assigned to him. Likely his instruction gave rise to this style. To date, this is the earliest copy of library handwriting that I have located. It pre-dates the printed letterforms in March of 1887. It is also of note that it includes some versions of the revised script that occur later the same year.
