Ch. A.7.24

This Instrument, made and concluded
between Noah Webster, jun. of Hartford,
in the State of Connecticut, on the one part, and
Isaiah Thomas and Ebenezer T. Andrews,
of Boston, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,
Printers, in Company, on the other part,
Witnesseth,

That the said Noah Webster, jun, for the
consideration of six thousand copies in sheets of the
First Part of the said Webster's Grammatical
Institute, to be paid and delivered to him by
the said Thomas & Andrews, doth grant, convey
and assign to the said Thomas & Andrews, their
heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, the exclusive
right of printing a “Grammatical Institute
of the English Language, in Three Parts,”
and every part thereof, in the States of Massachusetts,
New hampshire, and Rhode island, for
the full term of fourteen years from the
twenty second day of June last past. Provided
that said Thomas and Andrews, nor any person
claiming under them, their heirs, executors
or administrators, shall print, or cause to be printed
any copies of said Institute in that part
of Massachusetts lying west of Connecticut River
nor in any town adjoining to said river
in said state of Massachusetts.

And the said Webster hereby grants
to said Thomas & Andrews, a free privilege
of vending all parts of said Institute in
every part of the United States, except
in Connecticut, for the aforesaid term:—
And said Webster covenants that he will
not sell any copies of said Institute in any
part of the above described district, which is
