William Denny, Letter to Benjamin Chew, 1757

Philadelphia 13 August 1757
Sir:
An Express brought this Afternoon the inclosed Letters
informing me of the Surrender of Fort William Henry on Monday,
and the Attack of Fort Edward on Tuesday Evening. No other
particulars than what are contained in these Letters are yet
come to Hand.

I cannot dispense with calling the Lower Assembly
on this important Occasion, and desire you will be pleased
to let me know how soon they can meet for there is no time to be
lost in pressing them to do all in their power for his Majesty’s
service.

I am Sir,
Your most humble Servant.
William Denny
